The Cross of Beauty

What a great blog. It is so upLIFTing to here other men and women looking out for souls. Thank you Bobby (and Jackie) for sharing this article.

JACKIE + BOBBY

This article comes via a brother from another mother.  The working title was:  “Ladies:  Please Put on Some Pants!” and waswritten in a moment of frustration after seeing the umpteenth girl in the gym with her butt exposed.  She had to adjust her shorts with every single movement she made, like so many other women I’ve seen in the gym before.  But this girl was different.

This girl had braces.

She looked like she was 14.  And I watched the boys and grown men around her all glimpsing subtly (or not so subtly) at her body parts, as if she were a slab of meat on a buffet line.  I felt this mixture of anger and sadness—anger at the “men” around me, but also sadness for her situation.

It’s not that she was showing too much of her body, but she was ultimately showing too…

The Wisdom of Chastity ~ A Guest Post by Morgan

For all of you who want to learn more about chastity, visit The Veil of Chastity. The blog is filled with great posts and testimonies. Thanks Morgan for sharing your story. Thanks “Veil of Chastity” for reaching out to others.

The Veil of Chastity

When Morgan first conveyed this story to me, I knew that many of you would benefit from it.  Each of you will be challenged in your commitment to chastity by many people in various situations. Morgan offers many reasons for choosing this virtue.  This quote, to me, is the best reason:

“…But do I know that living chastely is what makes me the best version of myself? A thousand times yes…”

Thank you, Morgan for sharing your story!  Check out her blog here and find her on Twitter here!

Imagine this scene:

There I am, sitting on an exam table, waiting for my very first OBGyn appointment to begin.

I’m feeling a mixture of emotions…nervousness especially, but also a twinge of annoyance.

I was 20 years old and a virgin with no plans of sexual activity until marriage.

So then WHY, I asked myself, was I there. Ugh.

A Garland of Roses

Rosary Girl In Action

I’ve always loved rosaries. They’re pretty, they’re inviting, they’re comforting.

But they’re so much more than that! My dear friend, Sr Kat describes them as a “powerful tool against the devil.”

Non-Catholic Christians and even some Catholic ones don’t really “get” the whole rosary thing. You’re missing out!

As misunderstood as Catholic devotion to Our Blessed Mother is, a full explanation is not the purpose of this post. (That one is coming….I promise!)

The “cheap and cheerful” explanation of our devotion…the reason we pray to her is this: She connects us more fully to Jesus. She connects us to Him in a way that we could probably never accomplish on our own.

One of her most powerful ways of doing this is through the rosary.

The purpose of the rosary is not the glorification of Our Mother. That’s not something she ever seeks. She seeks only to teach us about…

Up and Coming

We had our Core meeting today and discussed ways to enhance and attract our young adults.  This is some of the stuff we discuss:

1.  Meet and Greet possibly after each mass with light refreshments and information on LIFT. (date TBA)

2.  Activities we can do together such as possible movie nights.

3. Ways to enhance our adoration-spending quiet time with God while doing Praise and Worship.  Next Adoration is April 22, 2012 3:00-4:30pm

4.  Planning of LIFT “Summer Beach Bash”

5.  Improving our JAM Jesus and Me program-anyone interested in being a part of this please let us know.  This is working with kids on different crafts, story time, and music and dance!

If your interested in being part of this dynamic group please contact Jackie or Fernando Buitrago!!!

What’s Your Name??

We are so excited to announce that the young adult ministry now has a name…

L.I.F.T. (Living In Faith Together) came about while hearing a Jars of Clay song, Shelter.  The song states “in the shelter of each other we will live…”  When creating this ministry, the vision was to form a community of young adults that would lift each other up spiritually and be each others’ accountability in a world full of confusion.   The name was confirmed when reading a verse from Ecclesiastes 4:10 “…the one will LIFT up his companion…”

So that is our name….What’s your name?  We would love to get to know you!

Respond to the Father’s Love

So far we have had two meetings for our new and upcoming, Young Adult Group coordinated by Fernando and Jackie!!!! I am so happy they have said Yes to Christ!!! to make us Young Adults finally have a voice in our faith.  However, they need the help of others to make this group what is meant to be which is a success.  Please pray about your calling and say yes to Christ. We are here to uplift one another in this journey.  We have 6 Core Positions:Public Relations, Coordinator, Socials/Fundraisers, Vice Coordinator, Community Service/Missions and J.A.M (Jesus and Me)! Presently I accepted my call as the Public Relations person and we had two “yes” for J.A.M. from Jackie V. and Georgina.  Please pray about your position and say Yes to Christ.
